We believe in learning through play, both in the preschool years and far beyond!

As psychologist Jean Piaget said so perfectly, play is the work of childhood. Here are a few of our four year old’s very favorite ways to learn through play!

🍎 Hi Ho Cherry-O: this counting game is excellent for practicing counting with one-to-one correspondence, taking turns, and beginning addition and subtraction as you add more or take away apples based on what you spin.

🐸 Lily Pad Letter Hop: this game can span several age groups easily and is perfect for playing with multi-age homeschoolers who will each get something they need from it. In preschool we are simply focused on the letters and their sounds, but the gameplay makes this so much fun!

📒 School Zone workbooks: we get these very inexpensively from Amazon. They help reinforce fine motor skills, letter, number, color, and shape recognition, and pre-writing skills. Our favorites are the cut & paste, tracing trails, and maze books!

I have never been concerned with doing sit-down school work with my kids before around 5.5, but as our youngest has seen her siblings doing seat work with mom daily for her entire life, she is eager to have her turn at the table as well!

Homeschooling allows us to give our children acces

Homeschooling allows us to give our children access to so much of the real world! Instead of being arranged into large groups of same-age peers, our kids get to interact with people of all ages regularly. They tag along while we run errands, make phone calls, and live our lives daily. Homeschooling allows our families to grow together and experience all the world has to offer while growing deep family bonds that will last far longer than high school graduation.

It's easy to get focused on the purely academic goals we have for our homeschoolers and forget that we have access to so much more than just curriculum to educate our kids. Forever thankful for this privilege and opportunity! 💗

This week…the weather is frigid in Charleston so

This week…the weather is frigid in Charleston so we hung out indoors, enjoyed our new read aloud, knocked out some math lessons to “catch up”, had a sleepover & movie night to celebrate one of the kids’ personal milestones, and worked hard getting ready for a new little brother to join our family. The kids are definitely ready and mom is PAST ready for him to get here!!

South Carolina might get a bad rap sometimes, but it’s really hard to beat 70+ degree beach days in December. We had an amazing time exploring Hunting Island State Park as part of our Dashing Through the Parks Scavenger Hunt!

From the nature center to the boardwalk, to a beautiful foggy day by the ocean, it was definitely a memorable day. Looking forward to so many more memories and field trips in @scstateparks in 2025!
