I carefully planned our human body unit study for October 2021. Making sure to schedule this unit during October meant we could go really crazy on the skeleton fun! Our kids were 5, 3, and 1 when we did this unit.
I try to plan one item per unit study that will be our big hands on “project” throughout the unit. Often, if I can find a sticker book on the subject, we will work through that. This time, however, we made giant cardboard versions of each kid and added the parts of the body as we learned them.
During week 1, we focused on the nervous system. Week 2 was muscles, and for week 3, we learned about the digestive system. We celebrated Halloween during week 4 with some unrelated fun!
This unit was fun and let us have lots of interactive experiences. I’m looking forward to doing it again in a few years when it’s a little bit safer to visit indoor museums. There’s one in Columbia, SC that has a giant child you can walk through and see different body systems, which I know my kids will LOVE. If you want to check out some more of the things we did in this unit, you can download my FREE Human Body Unit Study planning guide here. It has all of the educational TV episodes and movies we watched, links to the books we read, and more!
