Happy New Year from our family! Today I’m sharing some of our favorite family outdoor activities, and how we did on our 1000 Hours Outside Challenge in 2022.
We had a very low-key new year’s celebration this year. We planned to participate in a First Day Hike at a brand new, unopened SC State Park. However, our hike was yet another victim of Covid! We are still hoping we’ll get to visit May Forest soon!
We decided not to scramble to join a hike at a park we’d already visited. Instead, we moved our hike to the next day and explored Congaree National Park together on January 2!
This year, I have decided against repeating “1,000 Hours Outside”, because it constantly hung over my head. I had anxiety about counting every minute correctly…kind of the opposite of the point, I think!
I know I missed counting many of our hours, but we *definitely* got to 500 (plus) in early December. To help with the anxiety this challenge caused me, I decided to do something different this year and track our activities instead. It was awesome to come home from Congaree and color in a “hiking” activity on our new tracker without worrying about how long the actual hike took us.
I’m hoping this helps me relax a little about keeping track and will be much less complicated. I created this printable and would love to share it with you!
This year we are looking forward to more beach days, visiting at least nine more SC parks so we can be halfway to Ultimate Outsiders, and lots of field trips to important American history locations! We also hope to camp a few times!
Here are just a few of our favorite outdoor experiences from the past year!
