Welcome to our homeschool room! We’ve lived here a year now and its finally finished and ready for the tour.
This is the room that sold this house to me! The natural light and the easy access to the backyard make this space so perfect for my vision of homeschool. BUT the windows also make it kind of difficult to add things to the walls so that’s a trade off.
We started out with “benches” that ran under all the windows and could hold our supplies, however, when we acquired the modular couches, they didn’t fit. We turned the benches to stand vertically, and luckily, they fit just right.
The shelves to the left hold science materials (green), ELA materials (pink), and daily math & ELA items (aqua). The bottom two shelves hold books the kids can “check out” for their book boxes to read during the week.
These shelves hold our social studies materials (yellow) math materials (blue), book boxes for everyone, and more of our “library”. On top are the drawers where I sort out materials for each day of the week.
Outside the room, we have our magnet letters. I keep the pocket chart rolled up here (no wall space) so that its easy to reach when needed.
On the back wall, we have a sensory table (the top comes off) where we display items for our current unit study. We can also remove the tray of unit study items to use the table for math centers. The corner is “mommy’s chair” where I sit for our morning gathering time, and we also display the picture from our artist study and our calendar materials here.
The kids’ toys and games are stored in between the family room & homeschool room. Our six baskets are magnatiles, trains, duplo blocks, coffee & tea sets, community (buildings, cars, people & animals), and castle blocks with finger puppets. After we are done with structured lessons for the day, they can choose baskets to play with in the living room or homeschool room.
We hope you enjoyed the tour! Let us know what you can’t live without in a homeschool space in the comments!
