Some of the most fun we’ve had homeschooling to date has been during our reptile unit study! We did this unit study in the fall of 2020, so this was a preschool unit study for us. It could easily be adapted for older kids.
This was our first experience using a lap book. The kids loved having their own books that they got to add things to and interact with each day.
We learned about the five types of reptiles, I introduced topics like camouflage and food chains, and since we live near the ocean and have an aquarium nearby with a sea turtle hospital, we also spent a full week learning about sea turtles.
We were able to take several field trips as part of our unit, including The Edisto Island Serpentarium, which is one of our favorite places to visit. Nearby places we’ve visited that would make great field trips for your reptile unit are Cypress Gardens, Riverbanks Zoo, and the South Carolina Aquarium.
